New in Ubuntu 8.04 - released 2008-04-24

- Gnome 2.22 - Updated with lots of new features and improvements such as a new version of the Nautilus file manager.
- Visual desktopeffects - Compiz Fusion, visual 3D desktopeffects, now activated as default. Ubuntu automatically detects whether Your system is suitable.
- Policykit - Allows fine-grained control over user permissions and enhances usability and security in a more personal way.
- PulseAudio -A new sound server that allows you to do advanced operations on your sound data as it passes between your application and your hardware. A new version of the underlaying Alsa sound driver-architecture is also included with Ubuntu 8.04.
- Linux kernel 2.6.24 - Ubuntu 8.04 comes based on Linux kernel 2.6.24 which includes dynticks support for amd64 and a more fine-grained process scheduler that provides better performance.
- Firefox version 3 - A completely new version of the webb browser Firefox. As usual better than its former version. Faster, more secure, enhanced bookmarking, many useful and valuable 'add-ons' and 'plug-ins' and a lot more.
- Brasero - A new CD/DVD burning application, which complements the CD/DVD burning functions of Nautilus and is very well integrated in the Gnome environment.
- Transmission - A new BitTorrent client that comes preinstalled in Ubuntu 8.04, replacing the Gnome BitTorrent downloader.
- World Clock Applet -Integrating the features of the intlclock applet, the GNOME panel clock now can display the time and weather in multiple locations.
- Vinagre - A new remote desktop (VNC) client that allows connection to several machines at the same time. Replacing xvnc4viewer.
- Virtual Manager application - The "Virtual Machine Manager" application is a desktop user interface for managing virtual machines in a comfortable way. Integrated with the Kernel-based Virtual Machine, KVM.
- Likewise Open - Enables seamless integration of Ubuntu within an Active Directory network.
